Have you just brought a new computer? Maybe you have replaced all your systems at work and your old ones are useless? Is your old computer not worth anything to sell? Well there are companies that will take them off your hands. A company cannot legal recycle your computer unless they meet certain requirements, a few mandatory legal requirements that the company must have are a Waste Carrier License, Waste Management License. On the day of collection they must also provide you with a few things:
• A Hazardous Waste Consignment Note must be provided
• Duty of Care Transfer Note must be provided upon collection.
The above to items are forms that must be signed by both you and the collection company, it is because a computer may contain sensitive, personal information that all of these checks are so important, you must make sure the company is legit and conforms to all data protection act requirements. You would not want to hand your old system over for disposal and find they have shared your personal details found on your Hard Drive with other people. Disposal companies must erase all data without looking and dispose of the system correctly.
If a company cannot provide you with any of this paperwork i suggest that you look around and find another company.
