Business Promotion and Planning That Lead to Innovation

Business planning is an intricate issue and it is important to realize that not all we set to do turns out as we expect. Most business owners think that once they advertise a product it will improve sales only to sometimes fail. Just because someone else did something and it worked does not mean that it will always be the case.

Things in life and more so in business do not happen in a straight forward manner, yet in our business planning we treat things as if they do. Though we may predict how things will happen due to what we have seen before, sometimes our predictions do not come to pass. A good example would be where a business owner says if I invest 5% more in marketing I will increase sales by 10% or if I increase my staff, it will boost production.

Normally, things do not work out this way yet we stick with it hoping that along this pursuit we may be fortunate. I think we persist with the norm mainly because we are lazy and hence leave things as they are.

In business planning or when coming up with a marketing idea, one has to take into account the dynamics and nature of events. Fashion trends start just because someone looked at the dynamics of the market and networks. Ever wonder how an item becomes a 'must have' yet no intensive advertising has been done?

What happened is that it was spread around by the word of mouth or via the internet and with time it just took off. I am not saying that it is impossible to predict, but be open to the fact that things may not work out hence open your mind to new and innovative methods of business promotion.
